First things first! Welcome to all the new list subscribers that have found me since April! Scary how fast time flies. Almost as scary as how rarely I manage to blog!
Today is the first day of October! Which, if you know me already, you know is my favorite time of the year. Thirty-one straight days of horror movies, scary books, and trying not to eat candy is just about enough to carry me through midsummer next year. At which point I will start building a case to my significant other of all the positives of putting out the Halloween decorations early. Apparently, my talking points aren't all that convincing as I've yet to win the argument.
As for writing news, there actually is some! :D
It seems I have about a two book a year writing limit, normally a novella and a short story. Much more than that and my children might forget my name and my husband might have to clean more! Wait! What? Clean more? We can't have that!
While last year at this time, as Body of Work (Cold Fingers 2) was coming out, I had every plan to have a Cold Fingers Book 3 to release this month—I think it's well past time for everyone to meet Vic's father—I got distracted with another project.
You can expect to see That Rat, Carter Janson out from Dreamspinner Press this coming January. We're not quite through editing, but it already has a fabulous cover by the talented Brooke Albrecht and a blurb that makes me want to squeal! Think museums, questionable ethics and that asshole ex you can't forget, no matter how much you wish you could.
Once we're closer to release I'll give you more details!
Still, I didn't want 2017 to go without a little something!
Currently, I'm working with a few other authors on a short stories series, the first stories of which will be out this month!
Tattooed Corpse Stories is a series of completely different tales by different authors. Different times, different places, different subgenres. The connecting factors? The same dead body, the same tattoo, and most certainly a fair amount of crazy!
There's probably a bit of romance in there too. LOL
From wizards to haunted trails, the first books of the series will be all over the board. Hopefully you'll find something that will perfectly fit your Halloween reading bill!
My story, Pink Slip, about love, and trying not to lose your gig at a Halloween Terror Trail—you know, zombies, scary clowns, corn mazes—has been a hell of a lot of fun to write!
I'll let you know more later this month! :D
Whenever I blog, I love to talk about the last book I read that stole my heart! So there is no way I could hit post without declaring my love for the newest release from two of my favorite authors, Claire Davis and Al Stewart.
Dear Mona Lisa... released in August to rave reviews, and is absolutely one of the most beautiful, romantic books I've read in ages. I can't gush enough about this one. It's about the masks we wear, about falling in love and about the struggle to overcome the past. ♥♥♥♥♥
If you haven't already discovered this little gem for yourself, you can grab it from Amazon HERE. I can't recommend it enough!
Blurb
Tom, shy office clerk by day and drawer of foxes by night wakes up one Monday knowing the most extraordinary week of his life is about to begin. In five days time a lifelong ‘secret’ will be made gloriously public—but will it mean losing the person he loves most?
Getting married…
It seems like only yesterday Tom changed nappies and sang nursery rhymes to a laughing baby. He relishes the demands of being a daddy; especially teaching his little girl to draw and paint as she grows up.
But the years tick by and times change. Long-buried secrets must come to the surface which may test even the strongest ties.
Tom and Lawrence…
He writes a list of all the things he has to do before the weekend and sticks it in the middle of his wall. The names and goals hang like threads of a spider’s web, inevitably leading to the centre, and all to the same place.
Dear Mona Lisa…
How to explain?
Each morning he notes the colours of dawn, listens to the birds and waits for the perfect moment. In one hand rests the balance of life and a terrible responsibility, in the other a wedding ring. Difficult days and the past loom, but his friends rally round and one by one the words come to life.
Everyone waits as Tom finds the strength to open up and set free the secrets of his heart in a celebration of family, friendship and love.
A quirky story of modern life, set within the breathtaking landscape of Bradford.
HAPPY OCTOBER!
