Read Around the Rainbow • F#%k, Marry, or Kill! With Autumn-Colored Covers! #RAtR

Hello everyone! I hope each of you had an excellent September. Personally, it’s been a rough month, and I won’t be sad to see it end. Besides, October! At my husband’s request, I refrain from decorating until the first, so as you can imagine, I’ll be dragging out the Halloween tomorrow.

This month Read Around the Rainbow has decided to talk about fall-colored covers. We’re talking yellow, orange, and red. But I thought I would put a little twist on that. Everyone knows the game f#&k, marry, or kill, right? It’s kind of like Smash or Pass for people over thirty. LOL

How will this fit with the covers, you ask? I have no idea, I’m winging this! LOL

It was harder picking books than I expected. My rules—I must have read it, I must remember it clearly, no using the same author more than once—were thrown out very quickly. And I was surprised at how few orange, red and yellow books I’ve read. And the debates over what color a book was, were unexpected. LOL

Still, eventually, I did manage to finish. Hooray!

Now it’s time to share!

Yellow Covers

F#%K

Why F#%K? Okay, I’ll just say it. Kai Gracen is a hottie! And this series is awesome. There is a new cover for this one now, but this was the cover it had when I read it.

Is it yellow? Is it orange? I’ve decided it’s mostly yellow.

Mad Lizard Mambo by Rhys Ford

Blurb

Kai Gracen has no intention of being anyone’s pawn. A pity Fate and SoCalGov have a different opinion on the matter.

Licensed Stalkers make their living hunting down monsters and dangerous criminals… and their lives are usually brief, brutal, and thankless. Despite being elfin and cursed with a nearly immortal lifespan, Kai didn’t expect to be any different. Then Ryder, the High Lord of the Southern Rise Court, arrived in San Diego, Kai’s not-so-mundane life went from mild mayhem to full-throttle chaos.

Now an official liaison between the growing Sidhe Court and the human populace, Kai is at Ryder’s beck and call for anything a High Lord might need a Stalker to do. Unfortunately for Kai, this means chasing down a flimsy rumor about an ancient lost Court somewhere in the Nevada desert—a court with powerful magics that might save Ryder—and Kai’s—people from becoming a bloody memory in their Merged world’s violent history.

The race for the elfin people’s salvation opens unwelcome windows into Kai’s murky past, and it could also slam the door on any future he might have with his own kind and Ryder.

Marry

Why Marry? Well, while I do love this entire series, I actually dropped it here because Adrien English is so much like husband, it’s bizzare. I mean, everything about him. The first time I read the series, I found it really distracting.

And it’s definitely yellow!

The Hell You Say by Josh Lanyon

Blurb

After bookstore clerk Angus flees following terrifying death threats, owner Adrien must contend with a mysterious Satanic cult, a hot and handsome university professor, and his on-again/off-again relationship with closeted LAPD Homicide Detective Jake Riordan.

Kill

This one is pretty self-explanatory. A sweet and naughty romance between a guy with a murderous shadow and the Grim Reaper.

It’s really close the 50/50 orange and yellow, but I’ve decided to put it in the yellow category.

Oh, and this is a freebie and totally worth picking up!

Scary Gary by Ofelia Gränd

Blurb:

Micah Thaxter has a problem—one scary, inconvenient problem. His shadow wants him dead and isn’t shy about it.

On the plus side, it’s not his time to die and Scary Gary is always there to carry him back to the land of the living. Gary is far too pale, his black cloak a bit out of fashion, and his scythe quite terrifying, but he’s still one of the most beautiful men Micah has ever seen.

Micah may be stuck with a homicidal shadow, but perhaps there’s a way to keep Gary around too. His job escorting souls keeps him busy, but since Micah has already died once today, Gary’s there. So what’s the harm in offering him a cup of tea?

The Gravedigger’s Brawl by Abigail Roux

Blurb

When the past comes back to haunt you, order a double.

Dr. Wyatt Case is never happier than when he’s walking the halls of his history museum. Playing wingman for his best friend at Gravedigger’s Tavern throws him way out of his comfort zone, but not as much as the eccentric man behind the bar, Ash Lucroix.

Ash is everything Wyatt doesn’t understand: exuberant, quirky, and elbow deep in a Gaslight lifestyle that weaves history into everyday life. He coordinates his suspenders with his tongue rings. Within hours, Wyatt and Ash are hooked.

But strange things are afoot at Gravedigger’s, and after a knock to the head, Ash starts seeing things that can’t be explained by old appliances or faulty wiring. Soon everyone at Gravedigger’s is wondering if they’re seeing ghosts, or just going crazy. The answer to that question could end more than just Wyatt and Ash’s fragile relationship—it might also end their lives.

This book sounds like a keeper! We’re talking a 50s romance with a ghost. And not just any ghost, an 18th century ghost. Joy of joys!

A Trick of the Light by Ellie Thomas

Blurb

Kenneth Taylor has bright plans for a future as an engineer. In the summer of 1957, as soon as he returns home to Bristol from two years of National Service in the Royal Signals, a furious row with his dad means he’s thrown out of the house, and his prospects are in jeopardy.

He finds lodgings in the hilltop, bomb-damaged suburb of Kingsdown, determined to be independent and juggling night school with his humdrum day job. He soon meets Gino, the good-looking son of a local café owner and is thrilled when the attraction proves to be mutual. As their romance blooms, Kenneth finds unexpected encouragement from an apparition in the mirror who inhabited the house in the late 18th century.

When the ghostly vision of Kit also appears to Kenneth in his dreams, it seems they have much in common when Kit reveals his dilemma at a similar age, concerning his growing attachment to a young man, Ned. Past and present intermingle as Kenneth faces parallel and difficult decisions. But can he trust Kit? Or is it all merely a trick of the light?

Victor Bayne is the f#%king man! Another one of everyone’s favorite series. And if you’ve read this series and found yourself half in-love with Victor Bayne, buy the series in audiobook and finish the job.

Camp Hell by Jordan Castillo Price

Victor Bayne honed his dubious psychic skills at one of the first psych training facilities in the country, Heliotrope Station, otherwise known as Camp Hell to the psychics who've been guests behind its razorwire fence.

Vic discovered that none of the people he remembers from Camp Hell can be found online, and there’s no mention of Heliotrope Station itself, either. Someone's gone through a lot of trouble to bury the past. But who?

I would marry any book/story that features Chance and Sweets to the Sweet.

Bittersweet Candy Kisses - Jordan Castillo Price, Clare London, Sean Kennedy

Blurb

A storefront. You've never noticed it before. It's small, unassuming, and yet there's something about it that draws your eye. And the scent drifting out, dark and aromatic, so enticing. How could you have overlooked it? It must be new.

So why does Sweets to the Sweet look like it's been there for ages? And the pale man behind the counter...certainly you'd remember him.

Much like love, chocolate can be rich and heady, distractingly sensual, sweet and bitter. Just ask Chance. He’s been the catalyst of many a relationship over the years, though he himself scoffs at the notion of a happily ever after. But sometimes a mere hint of sweetness is all it takes.

Follow Sweets to the Sweet as it alights across the globe in twelve novelettes by Jordan Castillo Price, Sean Kennedy and Clare London.

Previously released individually as the Petit Morts series, now available together for the first time in this sweeping omnibus anthology.

Lacetown Murder Mysteries: Case One

A killer at a small-town literary festival. Bumbling drug dealers. A kidnapped cat. Starting a romance among all this chaos might be the death of them.

Michael Fleishman is excited to meet his favorite mystery writer, Russell Withingham, at Lacetown’s Literary Fest. He is not expecting to cross paths with sexy hairdresser Jasper “Jazz” Dilworth—or become embroiled in a real-life mystery. As Lacetown’s only mortician and the county coroner, Michael is called to his first murder scene and is shocked to recognize the victim—Russell’s young lover.

Jazz only wanted to confront his ex, Russell, over his cheating. Instead, he meets the adorably awkward Michael and becomes a murder suspect. Soon Jazz is teaming up with Michael to clear his name. Along the way, they are helped and hindered by Michael’s sassy assistant, Kitty, the grumpy Sheriff Musgrave, Russell’s creepy PR rep, Norbert, and Michael’s lothario grandfather, who likes his manhattans strong and his women saucy. And of course, Mr. Pickles Furryton the Third….

There they are! My collection of F#%k, Marry, or Kill autumn color books covers! OMG! That was so much harder than I thought it would be! But, I’ve not only discovered a whole bunch of great-sounding books in my search, I’ve also realized exactly how terrible I’ve been about keeping up my Goodreads account. Something I must remedy.

Have any fall-colored F#%k, Marry, or Kill covers you’d like to share? Comment with a link to the cover—I don’t think you can add an image on comments here—on my page or you can share the image on this post on Facebook, Twitter, or Goodreads. Can you share images in the comments on Instagram? I have no idea! We can find out together.
